Userinit microsoft

Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. Recently, my computer has been having this weird error message when I start it up and sign in.

It says, 'userinit. Just my desktop. I have an old Windows XP computer, and I am currently using a friend's laptop. This thread is locked.

Hi, From your issue description, I understand that you are facing issue with 'userinit. Let us try the following methods and check if it works for you. Method 1: Boot to Safe mode and check if the issue persists.

Method 2: Try the following registry edit and check. The actual path of the Winlogon key is:. In some places, it is legal for anyone who has access to a workstation to log on and begin working unless there is a notice that indicates that the system is for authorized users only. Also, many users want company-specific messages displayed before normal logon.

The standard GINA uses two Winlogon registry key values to allow a system to display information before logon. If either key value is present and contains a non-null string, then a Legal Notice dialog box is displayed before the usual Welcome screen.

These key value names are shown in the following table. By default, the logon screen displays the name of the last user to successfully log on to the workstation. When this key value is set to one, the user name is not displayed in the logon dialog box. If the AutoAdminLogon key value is present and contains a one, and the AutoLogonCount key value is not present, an automatic logon will occur every time the current user logs off or the system is restarted.

The password for the account can be specified in one of two ways. For details, see Protecting the Automatic Logon Password. The other way to store the password is in plaintext in the DefaultPassword entry of the Winlogon key; for security purposes, this technique should be avoided. If the AutoAdminLogon key value is present and contains a one, and if the AutoLogonCount key value is present and is not zero, AutoLogonCount will determine the number of automatic logons that occur.

The problem is that if I modify the path of userinit. Copy userinit. Reboot the machine and check that the updated reg value persists it does.

Shutdown the machine and clone it. Power on the clone machine and inspect the reg value. The source machine remains unaltered. Syntax checks on reg values pass - trailing comma is there, entries are properly delimited and paths are encapsulated with quotes as needed. This is on a vanilla build of Windows 10 No applications are installed, the machine is not joined to the domain so no group policies to deal with. It's about as basic as I could get and the reg value always gets reset on the target machine only on a clone operation.

Thank you for your clarification. I understand it. After cloning the VM, the target machine includes default and custom Userinit. I consider that this is due to the problem of VM cloning. The userinit string is not passing credentials between the VMware View Client and the virtual desktop. To get more information, I suggest that you could get help from VM official support.
